I’m very pleased to welcome You all to Rome and to the 14° UN/CEFACT  FORUM.

Trade Facilitation is strictly linked to competitiveness of all Countries in the global economy, as stated by surveys which have estimated that up to 15% of costs can be saved by applying Trade Facilitation measures.

Currently, world economy is slowing down, as widely known and foreseen by experts and economists. Therefore, the need for simpler and more efficient trade procedures is becoming more and more a “must” and not only an effective way to help the development of international trade.
Besides, the Doha Round is facing a difficult situation, which means that the liberalization of trade is at present in a “stand-by” position.

In this connection, given the strong commitment of Italy to support Trade Facilitation and the work of UN/CEAFACT,  the Rome Forum is meant to continue and to enhance the efforts made so far to implement new standards, new e-docs, single window, etc. to help on line but also offline international trade in the interest of all UN Member Countries.

Government officials, leaders of the business community, representatives of international and non governmental organizations, trade associations, academics and experts in trade facilitation, etc. are the target of this 14°  UN/CEFACT Forum.
